There are multiple levels: FORTIFIED Roof, FORTIFIED Silver, and FORTIFIED Gold
The Gold level means the home is built or upgraded with the highest wind-storm and rain-driven resistances: sealed roof decks, continuous load paths (roof to walls to foundation), impact-resistant entryways, reinforced walls and floors
In Alabama, the program is popular: the state leads the nation in number of FORTIFIED homes, driven by incentive programs and insurance discounts.

Grants Available to Fortify Your Roof - Strengthen Alabama Homes (SAH)

The program is run by Strengthen Alabama Homes (SAH) and applies to owner-occupied, single-family homes in Baldwin County (and also in neighboring counties). Under this program:

Homeowners may receive a grant up to $10,000 to upgrade their roof (or other strong-wind mitigation work) to the FORTIFIED Home Standard — either the Roof level or Silver level.
There are no income limits or income tests for the homeowner to qualify — as long as the property is the primary residence and meets program criteria.
The grant is first-come, first-served and open during specific application windows (check the SAH website for those dates). For example, for Baldwin County applications open every quarter (dates such as July 9th, October 9th).
Must be an owner-occupied, single-family residence in Baldwin County.
Must have homeowners insurance with applicable wind (and flood if required) coverage.
Submit the application as early as possible (spaces are limited).
